Laurel-Lee MacLure

Justine Vandergrift’s clear, rich voice and finely-tuned song-craft bespeak an affinity with the likes of Patty Griffin, Bonnie Raitt, and Sarah Harmer, but her own brand of country soul has deeper roots than that, ones that dig into the hymns and folk songs of her central Alberta youth. Her three studio releases reveal a rare and irresistible knack for melody, and her recent live off the floor album Sailor represents a deepening of that artistry. Justine is like the old hymns she grew up with – even if you can’t quite put your finger on what makes them genuine and authentic, they are undeniably so.

Laurel-Lee MacLure was born into music. Her Mother was a performer throughout PEI, exposing Laurel-Lee to various styles of Traditional, Country, and Folk. She is an Island girl whose transport from PEI to Edmonton left a little hole in her heart, where all her passionate songs come through. Laurel-Lee is a singer/songwriter with lyrics that spellbind, and melodies that enchant.

Celeigh Cardinal (pronounced Kay-lee) is a prairie girl through and through. Her heartfelt, biographical songs are carried by a voice that harkens to the golden era of jazz and blues. This Métis singer/songwriter is easily one of the finest vocalists to hail from the Peace Country. A Celeigh Cardinal performance is a profound, soulful triumph of songs that blend roots, folk, rock and pop. Her voice at once evokes a gentleness and control which can turn to raucous, gut wrenching, twisted, turn-yourself-inside-out blues within a single phrase. She is a passionate performer who can draw an emotional response with her deliberate words and rich contralto voice.
